If/When/How Reproductive Justice Legal HIV Fellow

Grabiela Hernandez, serves as the If/When/How Reproductive Justice Legal HIV Fellow at SisterLove Inc.

At SisterLove, Grabiela works on issues relating to health inequity, racial and gender-based discrimination, birth justice, contraceptive justice, Black maternal morbidity and mortality, and combating various forms of systematic and institutionalized oppression through law and policy. Grabiela’s work focuses predominantly on how reproductive justice related issues affect Black women, people of color, and gender expansive individuals. Through law and policy, you can find Grabiela advocating at the Georgia State Capitol, fostering relationships with legislative officials, and researching and writing informational pieces relating to sexual and reproductive justice utilizing a legal framework.

Grabiela obtained her Bachelor’s degree, and a pre-law certificate, with honors, from Florida International University, in Miami, Florida. Upon graduation, Grabiela began working towards her Juris Doctorate degree at Thomas M. Cooley Law School, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At Cooley, Grabiela received highest honors, and was awarded dean’s list Michaelmas 2020, and Trinity 2021 terms. Grabiela received her first Credit Merit award in criminal law in Michaelmas 2020, and her second in property law in Trinity 2021.

In August, 2021, Grabiela transferred to Emory Law, in Atlanta, Georgia. At Emory, Grabiela immersed herself in various professional externships, including but not limited to, interning for the Honorable Judge Rachel Krause at the Fulton County Superior Court, and externing with the legal team at Mosaic Georgia, a children’s rights and advocacy center, where Grabiela took part in representing adults and children seeking legal relief stemming from a sexual assault. At Emory Law, Grabiela authored various pieces relating to women’s issues and abortion access.

Grabiela earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Emory Law, in May of 2023. Upon Graduation, Grabiela began her professional law career at SisterLove Inc. As an If/When/How Reproductive Justice HIV Fellow with SisterLove Inc.
